An appraisal is an opinion of  value performed in an independent, impartial, objective manner. Appraisals are made for such purposes as:

  • establishing insurance premiums
  • collecting insurance payments when art is damaged or lost
  • receiving tax deductions for charitable contributions
  • planning and dividing estates
  • assessing value for pre-nuptial agreements or divorces
  • assessing tax liability for gift tax
  • taking collateral loans against the value of art
  • accounting for inventory when merging businesses
  • accounting for inventory when liquidating businesses
